Barcelona Showcase: Protocol DnB Crew

Updated: Feb 8

We are going to kick off the Barcelona showcase with the Protocol DnB Crew! They will be celebrating 1yr of throwing shows next week. They are throwing two shows, February 13th & 14th! Make sure to go and support! The party on the 13th is at Unplug, and the 14th is at Maoloa Club in Sabadell, and both have a stacked lineup of DJs from Barcelona and the rest of Spain!!

Maxprime & Rorro live at Unplug

The brothers from Chile, Rorro & Max Prime, are as passionate as it gets about their love for the genre. They have a bi-monthly at a bar called Unplug in the Gothic Quarter. It's a small spot where the vibes are in abundance!

They give not only the local DJs in Barcelona a spot to play, but they also look throughout Spain to bring Barcelona some fresh talent and sounds. At every show I went to, they had at least one female DJ on the lineup, AND they also gave opportunities to new DJs. While there, I got to witness a DJ by Kuak perform live for the first time, and it wasn't an opening slot either!!

These brothers' passion for DJing, throwing parties, and growing the scene in Barcelona is undeniable. Their parties have a bit of every sub-genre of DnB! I experienced everything from Liquid to Neurofunk and in between! These guys work with the other crews in Barcelona to co-host shows and to play at the other crews' events. They are a perfect example of how you grow a scene in your city!

If you visit Barcelona, make sure to look up The Protocol DnB crew and hit up one of their parties! You will have a good time and meet some amazing Junglists who reside in Barcelona! Like in most cities, I kept seeing many of the same faces as well as new ones at every show!

Here is the full interview from Rorro & Maxprime so you can watch them tell their story. The interview is in Spanish with English subtitles. We shot it at a skate park that they call "The Three Towers", which was loaded with amazing street art and graffiti, and it is located in the southern part of El Raval, a few blocks from La Rambla. Big ups to these two and I look forward to see what they bring to Barcelona in the coming years!
